What you will be prepared to do

These outcomes come directly from the reviewed course modules. They describe what the instruction teaches, not a promise that course completion alone qualifies someone for a position or license.

  • Explain who must complete dementia continuing education under 26 TAC 553.254 and how the facility documents it.

How the course works

The passing score is 80%. Questions and answer choices are randomized. After three failed attempts, you review the missed modules before receiving another randomized attempt set.

    Complete the lessons

Work through each lesson and complete the required engaged seat time. Progress saves as you go.

  2. 2

The assessment is untimed, saves your answers, and remains resumable for 24 hours after your last activity.

  4. 4

Requirement covered
26 TAC 553.254(b) and (c), implementing Tex. Health & Safety Code 247.0291: after completing the initial four hours of dementia training and a competency-based evaluation, a manager and each staff member who provides personal care services in a facility that is not Alzheimer's certified must complete two hours of annual continuing education on best practices for the treatment of and care for residents with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder; the facility provides and keeps a record of each completion certificate (553.254(e)).

What happens after you pass

Certificate issuance is separate from the assessment score. Required seat time, module completion, a passing assessment, and identity verification must all be present.

  • Download the certificate PDF in English or Spanish when that course language is available.
  • The certificate records the course, clock hours, start date, completion date, trainer, provider, and certificate number.
  • An issued certificate includes a signed QR link to its public verification record.
  • The agency record and training requirements recalculate after issuance.
